Care in the community

Talk and discussion session on living with dementia.

Monday 7th October, at 6.30 pm
at Downham Village Hall.

Talk by the Trainer of a domiciliary care company, Right at Home, which is aimed at raising awareness of living with dementia. As we live longer so we shall see and are seeing, an increase of people with the condition. Even if we are not directly affected at present we all need to know something about dementia and what it is like to live with it or care for with a loved one who does. 

The Ancient Tree Forum is coming to Bowland - Monday 7th October, Downham Village Hall, 7 - 8.30pm

Ted Green MBE and Jill Butler of the Ancient Tree Forum are two of our leading specialists. Ted founded the Ancient Tree Forum and was awarded the Royal Forestry Society's Gold Medal in 2017. Ted will introduce the concept of working trees in the Bowland landscape.

The event is free but voluntary donations to Champion Bowland CIO ( the charity that supports environmental projects in the AONB ) will go towards our Landmark trees campaign.

Situated in beautiful Lancashire countryside Downham Village Hall offers quality facilities for a wide range of events – from Wedding Receptions, parties, anniversary celebrations and children’s activities to art exhibitions, corporate presentations and smaller meetings. It is also a very popular base for groups exploring the area’s wonderful walking, cycling and wildlife.

With a big Main Hall and stage accommodating 108 seated, modern catering kitchen, two further smaller rooms and good access and parking, Downham Village Hall has very flexible options for the hirer.  Wi-fi, presentation equipment including a large screen and a hearing loop as well as tables, chairs and kitchen equipment are all available for events, as are three 20-10ft gazebos.

In addition, the Committee and other village groups organise regular meetings such as coffee mornings, gardening and local history clubs, WI and cookery demonstrations, as well as regular theatre performances from Stage II as well as themed nights, quizzes and an annual Bonfire night. You will find information on forthcoming events in our newsletter.

The following charges are PER HOUR of use (including setting up and breaking down time if necessary).

For extended usage, special discounts may apply - it is possible to hire the whole Hall for a weekend for as little as £600. Please discuss with the secretary when booking.

Tables, chairs, glasses, cutlery, heating and lighting are included in the above charges. Free WiFi is available throughout the building.
