NEW MINI-BANNERS MADE TO MARK MOVE OF OLD DOWNHAM BANNER TO MANCHESTER FOR CONSERVATION (pdf) Press Release

We are working with the Heritage Lottery Fund on the preparation of our Application for a Grant from the Our Heritage Fund. When and if this Grant is made then the next stages of the project can be started. In the meantime, we will also be approaching companies that might be prepared to support our work, particularly in relation to the Friendly Societies movement and the Educational legacy that is a central part of the project.

The conservation work will be undertaken by the Conservation Department at the People’s History Museum in Manchester. This process will be carefully recorded with a photographic record and we also hope to organise for local History Groups to visit the Department and see the conservationists at work.

The Museum of Lancashire has already begun to prepare for the hand-over of the Banner for permanent display. Work will also be done on the inter-active display.

Historical research is being undertaken by a graduate student at the University of Central Lancashire and a number of local historians are working with Lancashire Archive to unearth new information about the Society and the Banner.
